Agrotourism at Azafrán La Carrasca

Experience the Teruel saffron in first person

At Azafrán La Carrasca, we believe in what is organic, local, and authentic. Opening our doors and sharing our way of life is, for us, the most meaningful way to connect with people who care about where their food comes from — and how it’s made. That’s why we invite you to experience one of the most delicate and extraordinary crops up close: saffron.

Each year, during the harvest season — from October to mid-November — we host visits so you can become an active part of this magical moment. You’ll join us at dawn to handpick the saffron flowers as they bloom, learn how to esbriznar (separate the precious red threads from the rest of the flower), and discover the careful artisanal process that transforms these fragile blooms into the prized “red gold”.

Our standard visit lasts around four hours and offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in this centuries-old tradition from the inside out.

Taste products made with organic saffron from Teruel

But the experience doesn’t end in the fields. After the harvest, you’ll have the chance to taste a variety of our organic saffron products and explore the village of Blancas, with its hidden corners rich in history, art, and nature. We recommend a stroll to the Ermita de la Virgen de la Carrasca, the majestic Thousand-Year-Old Juniper, or La Paramera — an open-air art space home to the striking Sabina de Hierro sculpture.

If you have more time, we’ll be delighted to help you plan a wider route that includes nearby gems such as Peracense Castle, the Gallocanta Lagoon — one of Europe’s main sites for crane watching — or the charming Saffron Museum.

Agrotourism in Teruel to revitalise and preserve rural life

We’re also happy to arrange a traditional meal at the village bar, or help you find accommodation in Blancas if you’d like to extend your stay and enjoy a weekend of true disconnection — surrounded by serene landscapes and vast open skies, where time seems to slow down.

Beyond introducing visitors to the fascinating world of saffron, one of our main goals is to breathe new life into our village and support the local economy. Through agrotourism, we proudly showcase the rural beauty and cultural heritage of the Jiloca region, creating authentic experiences that connect people with the land and those who care for it.

Come and visit us. Discover saffron — and the stories, the people, and the landscapes that make it possible.
